Welcome to the National Disabled Police Association

The NDPA is a staff association and registered Charity set up to support disabled people both in the police service and the wider community. Launched in 2004, the NDPA provide a forum for individuals to seek advice and support. Circulating best practice and advising on police service policies, the NDPA aims to enable better access to policing for disabled people!

The committee is made up from elected members from each force association or network. The committee elect the executive for 3 year posts. The NDPA have won the support of organisations such as the Home Office, ACPO, The Superintendents' Association, Police Federation and The Disability Rights Commission. The NDPA is now recognised as a serious and representative association who are approached for consultation and presentations at all levels.

The NDPA currently offers free to all the use of the NDPA Community Forum as both a place for members to call for help but also as a resource to HR managers and employers.

OUR AIMS

Build trust and confidence between disabled people and the police service to improve community cohesion

Improve the recruitment, retention, progression and representation of disabled people within the police service; and offer appropriate advice and guidance to both forces and individuals to ensure that (where necessary) the right reasonable adjustments are put in place

Secure sufficient resource to enable the delivery of an accessible and high quality service to our members and stakeholders

Empower disabled members of the public and employees to work with the police to develop safer and inclusive neighbourhoods

Promote the police service to the public

Increase disability awareness to forces and increase the understanding and commitment locally for having an 'inclusive workforce'

Aspiring to make the police service disability aware for disabled people and carers

Aiming to mainstream disability into the police service and ensuring that the police family is an employer of choice!
